We May Never Pass This Way again (But I hope we will!)

My favorite younger brother Sam (don’t worry Peter you’re my favorite older brother) came to visit for two and a half weeks in May and we had an amazing time together. We saw some beautiful sites, laughed a lot and enjoyed day-to-day activities like cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping and going to the gym. These memories are ones that I will cherish for the rest of our lives. As Sam goes on to start his post-college life, I know we will probably never have that amount of time to spend together again. Hope you enjoy some highlights of our time together. I can’t wait to reminisce over these pictures in ten, twenty years from now.

Just hours after Sam arrived, I took him on a “highlights of Frankfurt” tour to see the city and to help him stave off jet lag from the overnight flight. We had beautiful weather for walking around.

The next morning, we were back at the airport to fly to Spain! We flew into Barcelona, got our rental car and head about 3 hours down to the coast to Valencia, land of oranges, paella, ocean views, and really nice people.

We really loved our Valencia Airbnb – our host was one of the nicest I’ve come across in the probably 25 Air Bnbs I have stayed at thus far. We spent a lot of our four nights Valencia just walking around and exploring the side streets with delicious snacks and drinks. Two highlights were our paella cooking class and also exploring the Valencia Arts and Sciences District. The buildings there were otherworldly and truly architectural marvels. You can read about them here.

After four nights in Valencia, we headed back up to Barcelona for two nights. Barcelona was a very different feel and I think Sam and I both preferred the relaxed feel of Valencia but Barcelona certainly has a lot to offer and some amazing sights and our Airbnb’s lovely balcony. Of course we walked all over city, sampled some more delicious food, and toured the famous Sagrada Familia which was quite breathtaking as well.

The second weekend Sam was here, we spent three nights in Bavaria, in another amazing Airbnb just outside Munich. We toured Neuschwanstein Castle, hiked the gorge down the mountain, toured Munich, and explored several other smaller towns. Bavaria is beautiful at any time of year but in the peak of summer, it is truly a jewel. Green grass, fresh air, and mountains – a welcome break from city living.

Once back in Frankfurt, Sam and I enjoyed exploring some of the quaint neighborhoods, bars, shops, and restaurants and we also took a few day trips. One to Heidelberg and one to Rudesheim am Rhein, both of which he really enjoyed.
